Nice to see this. I like type sets, trying to ger German and Australian type sets. But some coins are just expensive.

In 1987 i found a 21 morgan in what i would guess is BU, bright silver, in a whip cream bowl in the closet with other pocket junk. Ive had the coin ever since, no special handling, no special official holder. Its been loose in a tin or jar for years and many more years kept in a zip lock bag and it has no sign of tone at all.

My favorie American silver dollar is the Ike, i know its only 40% silver (1971) but still love it. Up here in Canada 🇨🇦 a few yrs back, FIRST STRIKE!!! was all the fad but could never be proven, so glad i never fell for that ! Strange i dont hear about first strike anymore lol 😅

Buying from these coin Hockers is almost as bad as trying to buy from youtube auctions. With their excuse that, sorry, the prices are high. People just wanna support the channel 😅 its wild that people dont do the research on this stuff before they buy it. I mean, hit the LCS and ask someone first. I know they get older ones who can't or dont know how, which should be illegal, but this should be stopped.

As a little bit of a contrarian...I have always preferred the Peace over the Morgan dollar. Dont get me wrong - I think the Morgan is beautiful - but the Peace had such a short run and MUCH lower mintage it becomes more desirable to me.

I have the 1909 vdb r/b ms 65 I think it is worth 120 it is graded by ngc and in a slab.

When I first started collecting coins, I set myself a condition. I would never pay more than 10% over spot for silver bullion coins, and would never buy a numismatic coin at any price over double spot. For gold I would never pay more than 5% over spot for bullion and would never buy a numismatic worth more than a 30% premium I figured that would give me a lot of protection till i actually learned to grade and value coins. It stopped me buying a LOT of morgan and other silver coin turkeys I can tell you. It also allowed me to get a bunch of gold commemoratives at very good values - generally under spot. Now that I know a bit more I often go into full numismatic mode but only for things I really want to have and that are very rare indeed.

I have bought a few of those fancy packaged coins off people. I even paid them more than others offered. Some are really well displayed or have a cool holder. If I Pay $40 for a coin like this that would be $30 raw, whose to say I overpaid? I got enough VG silver quarters I've bought at spot over 40yrs. Every so often I want a fancy packaged coin. And Daniel you said this, to some its a hobby. Maybe they woulda spent that money on beer or cigarettes and instead bought a coin for a memory. One cool thing about this hobby is, it always has some value decades later.

Daniel. You did nothing wrong. A 17 minute video and 2 minutes in, someone gets triggered and doesnt even comprehend the rest of the video. You had some spot on suggestions in the video but apparently those were not listened to. You don't put down collectors, you EDUCATE AND HELP them. The day I see Bradford Exchange at a show is the day I am going to climb Mt Everest. 🤣 They know better then to show up with the fancy boxes and overpriced polished coins at a show. I just feel bad for the buyers. If leaving for a family, they mean good and try but they get "scammed". Keep on EDUCATING and HELPING !

Thanks for sharing a little bit of insight on how to evaluate coin albums like those. I'm trying to build my Lincoln series right now and I was lucky to get 8 albums from someone at face value of the total coins that were in them. There are a lot of low grade coins in them, and all the key dates and difficult dates obviously were not there. I've slowly been finding some really nice circulated but mostly issue free coins to rebuild the album to a better grade and find the harder to find dates as I go. I doubt I'll ever have 'complete' album without the 1909s vdb and the 82D small date copper lol.

To me, if you want to collect graded coins, then buy them already graded. That is a much safer way than trying to figure out the "cleaned"/ "details" on your own. If Daniel struggles with this at times, the average person will see things incorrectly more often than not.

First of all they're verifiable and I can check the registry and see how much they're valued at so I know why dealers wouldn't want that.. I don't stack slabbed coins.. but I will buy them occasionally based on value and limited edition if there's 25,000 Trump coins that are slabbed at proof ultra Cameo you better I'm going to buy them if they're only 25,000 of them left worldwide.. but otherwise I will buy the stacked 10 oz or 5 oz bars

Isn't using toning retardants considered cleaning? If your going to dig down to the molecular level for nits to pick that would mean there is no such thing as a perfect MS 70 grade. As soon as the coin leaves the die it is exposed to the atmosphere and starts to oxidize and therefore technically it is no longer perfect.

Indian cents, the collection of my childhood, old Whitman album and coins all G grade with problems. It's okay I just keep the album in a drawer. Many hours in a coin shop on a Saturday with Mom patiently waiting for me. The coins are not valuable to anyone but me.

That price seems a bit low to me. I sincerely doubt that you could get either a 1877 or a 1909-S, much less both of them for less than $1000. What would you be asking for that collection if it was in your shop?

I was always told to look for the full liberty on the headdress and detail on feathers for the front and same for the details on back. The same goes for any of the Indian head cents as far as key dates or not. If u do that u can have a decent Indian head collection

Excellent advice, Daniel. I sold complete collections of modern coins about 5 years ago and put the payments into Bitcoin. Since then, I had the collecting itch and have been buying scarce, errors, etc. that are graded by one of the 3rd party grading companies. Also started a spreadsheet that shows the coin details and the price I paid. It will give my son or daughter a road map for estimated values. Cheers, Bob
